This also reminds me of another quote from Alfred Alder which reads “Follow your heart, but take your brain with you.” The point being to not forget that a little skepticism can be a healthy counterpoint to blind optimism. In my experience over the last eight years, Silicon Valley tends to lean on optimism as a rationale for explaining away the negative effects of what are ultimately poorly considered decisions — something I continue to grow extremely weary of.
