It's a Good Life If You Don't Weaken

You may not know The Hip, but they’re an inseparable part of being Canadian — as much as beer and hockey. This, their first performance closing out the 2021 Junos, and since the passing of lead singer Gord Downie in 2017 gave me all the feels, especially as I recognized the song — a personal favorite I might add, by the first note. I also can’t think of a better singer to fill the immense shoes of Gord than Leslie Feist.

This particular song inspired the commemorative screen prints I made on the occasion of the band’s final touring performance on August 20, 2016. There’s still a few available and 100% of their sale goes directly to support the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
